Kurashiki is only a few kilometers west of Okayama City. During the Edo Period, Kurashiki was a center for storing rice harvested from surrounding, fertile regions. Kurashiki is interpreted as “storehouse town”. Several dozen of the original storehouses (kura) can still be found in this beautiful town with tree lined canals.
倉敷は岡山市から西へ数キロの場所にあります。江戸時代、倉敷は周辺の肥沃な地区から収穫された米の保存の中心地でした。倉敷は「倉庫の町」と訳されます。木々に囲まれた運河のあるこの美しい町では、未だ数十の蔵を見る事が出来ます。

Okayama is a major transportation hub for the Chugoku Region. The city is most famous for Korakuen, known as one of Japan’s three most beautiful landscape gardens. The surrounding area is very picturesque, with beautiful bike tracks leading to some wonderful ancient five story pagodas.
岡山は中国地方の交通の中心です。ここは日本三名園の一つである後楽園で有名です。周辺地域は絵のように美しく、自転車用の道がいくつかの古い五重塔に繋がっています。

Yokohama is Japan’s second largest city with a population of around three million people. It is only 30 minutes south of Tokyo by train and is the capital of Kanagawa Prefecture. Yokohama’s Chinatown is one of the world’s largest and Japan’s tallest building, the Landmark Tower can be found here.
横浜は約300万人の人口を持つ、日本で二番目に大きな都市です。 東京の南西にあり、東京から電車で約30分で、神奈川県の県庁所在地です。横浜の中華街は世界でも大きなものの一つで、日本で一番高い建物であるランドマークタワーがあります。

On August 6, 1945, the city of Hiroshima was the target of the first atomic bomb used against civil population. This horrific act was repeated three days later by the United States on the city of Nagasaki. In total, 250,000 people were killed by the two bombs. Today, both Hiroshima and Nagasaki are strongly engaged in banning nuclear weapons and their testing worldwide. Hiroshima is the capital of Hiroshima Prefecture and is occupied by around one million people. Hiroshima is home to many interesting tourist attractions as well as the historic memorial museum.
1945年８月６日、広島は世界で初めて原子爆弾投下の標的になりました。アメリカ合衆国によるこの恐ろしい行為は、3日後長崎でも行われました。この2カ所での原爆投下により約25万人以上の一般市民が死亡しました。現在、広島と長崎の両県は、世界的な核兵器使用禁止や、それに伴う実験を禁止する活動を積極的に行っています。広島市は広島県の県庁所在地で人口は約100万人です。広島は広島平和記念資料館だけでなく、多くの観光名所があります。

Miyajima is just a ten minute ferry ride from the shores of Hiroshima. It’s name means “Shrine Island” and is one of Japan’s three most scenic viewing locations. The Itsukushima Shrine and the large wooden torii stand in the ocean during high tide and make for a spectacular view especially at sunset. Deer and monkeys freely walk around this island and it is said that no person may die or be born on the island.
宮島は広島湾からフェリーで約10分ほどの所にあります。島の名前は「神社のある島」という意味で、日本三景の一つです。厳島神社は満潮時、大鳥居が海上に浮かび、特に日没時は見事な眺めです。神がまつられる島内では、鹿や猿が自由に歩き回り、葬送や出産は禁じられています。

Kanazawa lies along the western side of Japan’s main island, Honshu. Kanazawa was Japan’s second largest city after Kyoto to escape destruction by air raids in World War II. Much of the ancient Samurai buildings, temples and pleasure districts survive today in relatively good condition. During the Edo Period, Kanazawa was the seat of the Maeda clan, the second most powerful clan after the Tokugawa in terms of rice production and fief size. It is a town of great cultural achievements and home to the stunning Kenrokuen gardens.
金沢は本州の西側にあります。第二次世界大戦の空襲を免れた、京都に続き二番目に大きな都市です。多くの武家屋敷や寺、そして歓楽街が現在も比較的良い状態で残っています。江戸時代、金沢は加賀藩の藩祖である前田家の本拠地で、米の生産高や領土の広さでは徳川家に続き二番目に大きな勢力を持っていました。また、世界的に偉業を成し遂げた人々が住んでいた都市で、日本三名園の一つである兼六園があります。

Izushi-Cho is a small village that prospers as a castle town and is called the Sho-Kyoto (little Kyoto) of Tajima. Here you can still find traditional scenes once seen in the ancient city of Kyoto. The specialty of this town is buckwheat noodles, called Izushi soba, and there are about 50 soba restaurants in the town.
出石町は城下町として栄え、但馬の小京都と呼ばれる小さな町です。ここでは、京都のような歴史ある景色が未だ見られます。名物は「出石そば」で、町には約50件のそば屋があります。

Nikko is a small city famous for the Toshogu, Japan’s most lavishly decorated shrine complex and mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. Nikko is also a centre for Shinto and Buddhist mountain worship for many centuries.
日光は、徳川幕府初代将軍である徳川家康を祀る日本で最も精巧に建造された東照宮で有名な小都市です。また、何世紀にもわたり神道と仏教の山岳信仰の中心でもあります。

Tokyo is the worlds largest city. Prior to 1868, Tokyo was known as Edo. After the Meji restoration of 1868, the Emperor and capital were moved from Kyoto and Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo means “Eastern Capital”. This great, lively city is truly amazing. Centuries old shrines lay between mammoth 20th century architecture and showcases Japans ability to mix both the new and old styles of life. The train systems are a tribute to Japanese Engineering. In Shinjuku alone, three million people commute through the station every day.
東京は世界で最も大きな都市です。日本の47都道府県の一つで、23区、26市、5町、8村で構成されています。1868年より前、東京は江戸として知られていました。明治維新後、天皇そして都が京都から移り、江戸は東京都と改名されました。東京は「東の都」という意味です。東京には多くの近代建築物と古くから残る建物があります。このすばらしく活気のある都市は驚くべきものが多く、特に鉄道網は日本の工業技術の賜です。毎日、新宿だけでも約300万人の人々が駅を利用しています。

Kyoto is the old capital of Japan and the residence for the Emperor from 794 until 1868. It is now the country’s seventh largest city with a population of 1.4 million people. Over the years, Kyoto has been destroyed by many wars and fires, but escaped the air raids of World War II due to it’s historic value. Countless beautiful temples, shrines and historic locations survive throughout the city today. The people here are more conservative than others in Japan and they are well aware of the attraction that Kyoto has on foreigners.
京都は７９４年から１８６８年まで都がありました。現在、人口は約百四十万人で、全国で七番目に大きい都市です。京都は、長年にわたり多くの戦争や火災などで破壊されましたが、歴史的な価値があるために、第二次世界大戦の空襲を免れました。町中には無数の綺麗なお寺や神社など史跡が多く残っています。京都の人々は保守的な人が多いです。
